Menu Design - The Taco Stand

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
This project was about redesigning a restaurant menu for “The Taco Stand” in San Diego. The goal was to use object-, paragraph-, and character styles to create an unified layout. First we had to create a style guide for the project. The taco stand serves authentic traditional Mexican food from Tijuana. It is a trendy and new restaurant with a simple menu. The connection to the Mexican culture is important for the restaurant and its corporate identity and design.

DESIGN
After researching and studying their website I created a style guide. The colors were sampled from their actual website and they represent the colors of Mexico. The illustrations were used as a background-pattern in their website; all iconic for the Mexican culture. I used this elements to create a new menu. First I recreated the icons and used them to create a Mexican landscape for the cover. In the inside I used them as a background pattern as seen on their web-page. I kept the whole design in 2 colors to ensure the corporate design. For the font I decided to go with a trendy comic style font for the titles that would fit the theme and feeling of this restaurant, paired with a non-serif font for the menu item to guarantee readability. The colors in combination with the illustration make the menu look modern and more target towards younger people.

I used a text box in the inside of the menu to highlight their core values, such as the freshness of their menu items.
To unify it with the rest of the menu I set a sombrero on the top of the text box to give it a special flair.
